International Student Center Continued Education During the Pandemic Period to Contribute to Turkey's International Trade
Every international student studying at a university in Turkey establishes a lifelong deep bond with Turkey, thanks to the education he receives, the culture he is used to, and the friendships he has established, especially in Turkish. While some of our students intend to use the education they have received in their country or in different countries of the world, some of them intend to establish a bond between their own country and Turkey. Graduates of universities in our country have an important place in the increase of trade between countries. However, like every country, Turkey has its own rules, institutions and processes in the commercial field.
In order to respond to the needs of students in this regard, our University's International Student Center paved the way for the opening of the "Honorary Trade Ambassador" certified course within the body of YTB International Academy this term. The lectures were held under the coordination of Dr. Halit Uyanık, a member of our University's Faculty of Law and also the Deputy Director of the International Student Center. Students, most of whom are studying at Istanbul University and intending to do business with Turkey after graduation, were selected through interviews and classes were started.
In the first part of the course, which was designed as three modules, it was planned to cover subjects such as Entrepreneurship, Banking, Marketing and Finance, and in the second part, an introduction to the fields of law such as Administration, Tax and Labor Law was planned. In parallel with the topics covered in the lectures, visits to public and semi-public institutions that should be known by someone who will do business in our country were planned.
The program, which started with Ömer Ekinci's Entrepreneurship course on February 22, continued face-to-face with Halit Uyanık's Administrative Law and Hasan Şenocak's Business Law courses until mid-March.
In the meantime, during the trip to the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce, the students were informed by the chamber officials about the structure and functioning of the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce.
YTB International Academy classes were suspended until the end of the month, after the World Health Organization described the New Coronavirus (COVID-19) epidemic as a pandemic on March 10 and the first cases were seen in our country. After this transition period, "Honorary Trade Ambassador" courses, like other courses of Istanbul University, continued on online platforms. From the first week of April to the first week of May, with an average of two lessons per week, both missing lessons were replenished and the lessons of the following weeks were completed.
After the holiday, the certificates prepared with the signatures of our Rector Prof Mahmut AK and YTB President Abdullah Eren were delivered to the students. The academicians of Istanbul University Çiğdem Börke Tunalı (Turkish Banking System), Abdurrahman Savaş (Law of Obligations), Rasim İlker Gökbulut (Finance), Abdullah Okumuş (Marketing), Gültekin Altuntaş (Management), Halil Çonkar (Commercial Law) and Erdem Ateşağaoğlu (Tax) Law) contributed with their lectures.
