1. Can I apply to Istanbul University as an international student?
Yes. You can apply to international student quotas both at undergraduate and graduate levels.

2. Do I require to take an exam in order to study at one of the undergraduate programs of Istanbul University as an international student?
Yes. You need to take the IUYOS exam which takes place every year.

3. What is the minimum score I need from IUYOS exam in order to be able to make my preference?
You need to score at least 30/100 in order to be able to study at one of the open and distance education faculty programs and 40/100 in order to be able to study at one of the formal education programs.

4. If I pass the minimum required score (i.e. 30 or 40) at IUYOS exam, does it mean I got admission to one of the undergraduate programs at Istanbul University?
No. Passing the minimum score only means that you can form your preference list. However, getting admission into your preferred degree depends on your comparative success and country quotas.

5. What is country quotas?
Country quotas mean that maximum 20% of an undergraduate degree program’s international quota can be filled by the same country candidates. Please go to here in order to view quotas for international students.

6. How can I view the previous year’s IUYOS ranking of the degree program that I want enroll in?

7. Can I apply to IUYOS exam while I do not have my high school diploma yet?
Yes. Those students who are in the last year of their high school education can also apply to IUYOS exam. However, in case of getting admission, you need to have your high school diploma ready by the time of final registration (i.e. generally September-October, please keep checking the academic calendar for registration deadlines).

8. Can I enroll in an undergraduate program at Istanbul University with the result of previous year’s IUYOS exam?
No. IUYOS results of previous years are not accepted by Istanbul University.

9. Can I apply to undergraduate programs of other universities with my IUYOS score?

10. Can I apply to Istanbul University undergraduate programs with SAT, A-levels, Cambridge etc. scores instead of IUYOS score?
No. Istanbul University accepts students to its undergraduate programs ONLY based on IUYOS scores.

11. Can I take the IUYOS exam in my country?
IUYOS exam is conducted in several countries every year. The exam centers are determined according to number of applicants from each country. In order to view if there is an exam center in your country or not, please go to here.

12. In order to study at undergraduate programs that accept students based on special talent exams (i.e. State Conservatory), do I need to take IUYOS exam?
Yes. You need to have the minimum required score from IUYOS exam in order to take the special talent exams.

14. Does Istanbul University offer scholarships (e.g. for poverty, success) for international students that study at undergraduate programs?

16. Do I need to study Turkish preparatory class if my undergraduate degree program is in English?
Yes. All international undergraduate students, whether their program is in English or Turkish, are required to study for one year at Turkish preparatory class unless they pass the proficiency exam.

17. Do I need to study English preparatory class if my undergraduate degree program is in Turkish?
No. Students who are enrolled at an undergraduate program which is offered in Turkish study only at Turkish preparatory class.

18. If my undergraduate program is offered in English and in case I know neither English nor Turkish, how many years I should study at the preparatory school?
In this case, international students spend two years at preparatory school: one year for Turkish and one year for English.

19. If I already know English or Turkish, how can I be exempt from preparatory class?
You can be exempt from the preparatory class if 1) you take the proficiency exam conducted by our university each semester and successfully pass it 2) you have a valid language certificate recognized by Istanbul University. For more information, click.

20. I have a Turkish language certificate that I obtained from a course I attended. Can I be exempt from Turkish preparatory class?
In order to be exempt from Turkish preparatory class, you need to have a certificate issued by Yunus Emre Institutes or TÖMER courses. Other certificates from private courses are not accepted.

21. Can I get student visa/ residence permit if I get registered in one of the formal education programs at Istanbul University?
Yes. All the international students who study at one of the formal education programs of Istanbul University are eligible to have student visa/ residence permit.

22. Can I get student visa/residence permit if I get registered in one of the open and distance education faculty programs at Istanbul University?
No. Students who are registered at open and distance education faculty programs are not eligible to have student visa/ residence permit.

23. Does Istanbul University have accommodation facilities for international students?

24. Can I apply for extension before my student visa expires?
Yes. You can apply for the extension of your student visa up to 60 days before the expiry date through https://e-ikamet.goc.gov.tr .

25. After I complete my application through https://e-ikamet.goc.gov.tr , where should I take my documents to finalize my application of extension?
You need to bring your necessary documents for extension to International Student Center, Stone Rooms No: 22, Vezneciler, Istanbul University.

26. I am out of Turkey for the moment. Can someone else submit my documents on my behalf?
No. Document submission should be made in person and your application cannot be finalized while you are out of Turkey.

27. I want to apply to a graduate program at Istanbul University. Can I send my documents via e-mail or post?
No. Graduate applications take place only through http://basvuru.istanbul.edu.tr online application portal.

28. What are the requirements in order to apply to a graduate program at Istanbul University?
For a master's degree your GPA must be at least 65/100 and for PhD at least 75/100 which is made up of 50% bachelor's and 50% master's GPA. You also need to submit two academic reference letters along with your application.

29. What is the tuition fee of the graduate program I want to apply to?

30. Can I pay the yearly tuition fee in installments?
Yes. You can pay the yearly tuition fee in two installments.

31. Are there any scholarship opportunities for the graduate programs at Istanbul University?
No. Istanbul University does not offer scholarships of its own. However, click here to get information about other scholarship programs.

32. During my application to a graduate program, I could not find the school I graduated from on the list. What should I do?

34. I have got admission to a graduate program at Istanbul University. What should I do now?
Please contact the relevant institute and submit your documents to institute in person within the deadlines. No exception to this can be made.
