2018-2019 Academic Year of Education at Istanbul University Opened

The Opening Ceremony of Istanbul University 2018-2019 Academic Year was held on October 9, 2018.

Rector of Istanbul University Dr. Mahmut AK in his speech, emphasizing that Istanbul University received the title of “Research University” with its contributions to the world of science, stated “as a result of all these studies our university, which pioneered numerous scientific researches, received the title of ‘Research University’. Furthermore, according to ARWU rankings, as ‘the Most Patent Applications and Top Patents University’ our university has succeeded to be ‘the Single Turkish University which has 14 times among the 500 universities in the world’.

Rector Prof. Mahmut AK expressed that Istanbul University is taking serious steps towards internationalization. AK said “in order to accelerate the international students coming to our university, we opened Istanbul Medical Faculty English Medicine Program, Faculty of Pharmacy English Pharmacy Program, Faculty of Dentistry British Dentistry Program, Faculty of Political Sciences British Political Science and International Relations Faculty of Theology and Faculty of Theology. 6533 international students from 145 countries are studying at our university. In 2015, the number of international students was 5747, and the number of international students has increased by 13.68% in 4 years. The number of international students receiving postgraduate education in 2015 was 1467, and this number is 1937 today. In 2015, 25% of international students received post-graduate education and today this number has risen to 29%. The increase in undergraduate and graduate education is the result of internationalization studies. There are also 637 Erasmus with 28 countries, 41 Mevlana with 16 countries, 188 bilateral agreements with 57 countries and Farabi agreement with 91 universities.”
